GCSE Maths

A good grade at GCSE Maths can be crucial for enabling future choices and private tuition can really help to achieve it.

I am a fully qualified teacher and have taught maths for over 13 years, successfully tutoring many students privately during this time.

I have worked in an outstanding maths department in a secondary school where my lessons were consistently graded as outstanding by senior leaders. An Ofsted inspector observing one of my lessons commented “if there was a level above outstanding it would be graded as that”.

I utilise my knowledge and skills from being a classroom teacher to deliver highly effective tutoring sessions.

How I can help you

I offer expert and bespoke tuition designed to supplement and reinforce school learning, helping to build confidence and problem solving skills.  I align sessions with each student’s curriculum, filling in any gaps in understanding and helping students feel prepared for their exams. I pride myself on having a flexible approach and the ability to explain complex ideas simply and succinctly.  I have high levels of energy and make maths engaging whilst fostering a supportive environment.

  • I have a 1st Class Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a PGCE in Secondary Education, both from The University of Sheffield. I have over 13 years of teaching experience, both as a classroom teacher and a university tutor. I have also privately tutored many students successfully, both online and face to face for GCSE and A Level.

  • Previous students have described me as energetic, motivating and supportive.  I believe that my engineering background helps me greatly to explain complex ideas clearly.  I provide examples of “real world” applications to help engage students. I come from a family of teachers and love to help people succeed in maths.

  • Each session would usually begin with a brief recap of the previous session before beginning with any new material, making sure there is plenty of time for working through selected questions together.  Activities to complete after the session can be suggested where appropriate.

  • I use a mix of online resources, textbooks, eBooks, and practice exam questions tailored to the relevant exam board or syllabus.  During online sessions I use a shared whiteboard and on-screen graphing tools to work through problems together.

  • Absolutely!  I specialise in helping students prepare for upcoming exams.  I would recommend getting in touch as soon as possible.  I focus on key topics to ensure you are feeling confident and prepared, with a real emphasis on answering past paper questions. I also share revision strategies and practice resources.

  • Yes, it is possible to group students together if they are working at a similar level. Group sessions can be beneficial; they are more affordable, and some students feel more comfortable in a small group, especially if students are already friends. Please let me know if this is something you are interested in.
